The Defro Optima HG 19 kW wood gasification boiler is a manually fed central heating boiler designed for operation with split logs. It is intended for water-based heating systems and serves as a heat generator in systems where the generated heat is controlled and distributed via a buffer tank.
The Optima HG model series is designed for use with hardwood split logs. The boiler operates on the wood gasification principle, making it an attractive option for operators who want a classic log wood heating system with structured combustion technology.
In the Defro Optima HG, the wood is degassed in the upper combustion chamber. The resulting wood gases are directed through a combustion nozzle into the lower combustion chamber, where they are burned off. The combustion chambers are lined with fireclay bricks designed for high temperatures in the combustion zone.
The flue gases are routed through tubular heat exchangers. Specially shaped turbulators support the heat exchange process. An induced draft fan extracts the flue gases from the boiler, while the electronic control system regulates operation to the set boiler temperature. Standard equipment also includes a safety temperature limiter and an integrated safety heat exchanger.
The wide loading door makes it easier to load split logs. With separate loading, combustion, and ash zones, the boiler is practically designed for regular operation and recurring cleaning. The integrated cleaning mechanism for the heat exchanger supports proper maintenance of the boiler.
For ongoing heating operation, it is important that the generated heat is continuously absorbed by the heating system. Therefore, operation with a buffer tank is intended. This allows the heat to be stored temporarily and later released to the heating system or domestic hot water preparation.
The Defro Optima HG 19 kW is designed for hot water heating systems with a flow temperature of up to 90 °C. Installation is possible in closed heating systems according to DIN 12828. For safe and material-friendly operation, a professionally designed hydraulic system with return temperature boosting is required.
The boiler must be combined with a suitable buffer tank. Additionally, the requirements for the chimney, boiler room, fresh air supply, safety group, and hydraulic integration must be considered during system planning.

Installation of the wood gasification boiler should be carried out by qualified specialist personnel. Integration requires a suitable installation room, adequate fresh air supply, a proper chimney connection, and professionally designed hydraulic safety equipment.
Operation requires return temperature boosting with a return temperature of at least 65 °C. The boiler is intended for closed heating systems and must be combined with a buffer tank.
The intended fuel is hardwood split logs with suitable residual moisture. The use of other fuels or unsuitable materials is not part of the intended use.
The manufacturer's documentation must be observed before commissioning, during operation, and for maintenance. Regular cleaning and correctly designed heat dissipation are important for stable and long-lasting system operation.
