Product Overview & Application Area
The Schönberg EPS 500 is a thermal storage tank without an integrated heat exchanger for water-based heating systems. With an actual net capacity of 470 liters, it is suitable as a heating water buffer tank for hydraulic integration into suitable system concepts.
The tank is used in heating systems, solid fuel systems, solar thermal systems, and in system environments with combined heat and power plants. It serves as intermediate storage for heating energy and supports orderly hydraulic separation between heat generation and heat distribution.
Technology & Equipment
The EPS 500 is designed as a buffer tank without a heat exchanger. The tank body is made of quality steel S235JRG2, raw on the inside and primed on the outside. It is installed standing on a base ring.
For system integration, 8 charging and discharging connections with 1 1/2 inch female thread, 4 sensor and controller connections with 1/2 inch female thread, one vent connection with 1 1/4 inch female thread, and 2 connections for electric heating cartridges with 1 1/2 inch female thread are available.
Everyday Benefits
A buffer tank supports the time-shifted use of generated heat and can hydraulically stabilize the operation of a heating system. Especially in systems with solid fuel boilers, solar thermal systems, or multiple heat sources, the tank helps to provide generated energy in a controlled manner within the heating system.
The EPS 500 offers a larger storage volume within the EPS series with a net capacity of 470 liters and remains easy to plan with a diameter of 650 mm without insulation. The tilting dimension of 1,620 mm without insulation must be considered during transport, installation, and setup.
System Integration & Compatibility
The EPS 500 can be integrated into suitable heating, solid fuel, and solar systems. Use in the vicinity of combined heat and power plants is also possible, provided the system concept is designed accordingly.
The storage tank is intended for heating water and is not designed as a potable water tank. The specific hydraulic integration, the sizing of the safety valve, expansion vessel, venting, and control, as well as the selection of suitable components, are carried out as part of the professional planning.

Installation
The storage tank is installed standing on a load-bearing, level, and frost-free surface. When bringing it in, the tilting dimension without insulation, the connection positions, sufficient installation clearances, and later accessibility for inspection and maintenance must be taken into account.
The hydraulic connections are connected according to the system concept. Electric heating cartridges may only be mounted on the connection stubs provided for this purpose. After installation, all threaded connections must be checked for leaks.
Notes
The type designation EPS 500 does not correspond to the exact storage capacity. The actual net capacity is 470 liters. Dimensions and connection values must be checked against the specific version before ordering, bringing in, and installation.
The storage tank may only be operated within the permissible operating limits. Before working on the storage tank, the system must be depressurized, cooled down, and secured against unintentional refilling.
